If you have not seen the ads yet, smoking is both addictive and deadly. It can lead to cancers and disfigurement. But, many adult smokers began this habit when they were teenagers. Help your teen to understand what they are in for if they begin to smoke.

You would like to count out all that your teen shouldn’t do and expect them to follow your lead. Unfortunately, they won’t understand that. Remember when you were a teenager? Many reasons exist why teenagers start smoking in the first place. Learning those reasons and trying to counteract them is your best way of getting through to your teen.

So, why do teenagers smoke? In the 60s and 70s it was the Marlboro Man ads. Smoking was synonymous with sex appeal and manliness. If you weren’t the Marlboro Man then you were a woman who wanted one.

Some kids these days still feel like smoking gives them that allure. Girls love a dangerous guy who lives on the fringes of society because he is different. Smoking makes him look cool and handsome at the same time. For girls, smoking is what the “bad girls” do. This is a draw for teens with low self-esteem who would like to boost their image somehow.

Smoking may also be effect of peer pressure. When your teen is with their friends and they smoke, they’ll ultimately provide a smoke to your teen. Too much ribbing and teasing can lead to your teen trying it “once.” Little do they know that nicotine is addictive and one cigarette turns into a pack a day habit.

Smoking makes teens feel “grown up.” When you are feeling a lack of attention at home or at school, smoking means they feel like they are important. They gain confidence from that cigarette in their mouth.

Most of these are reasons why your teen may take up smoking even after your lecture on why it is wrong for them. Now, let’s move on to the physical consequences. The most important is cancer.

Cancer is the word we don’t utter at the dinner table or in normal family conversation. If we ignore it, maybe it’ll go away. The cancers associated with smoking are lung cancer and throat cancer for a start. People who smoke are also likely to develop emphysema, COPD and other respiratory problems.

One of the most devastating situations is when someone you care about gets cancer from second-hand smoke. Their smoking has made you sick. It is always more of a deterrent to smoking when someone your teen knows has cancer or another disease that is directly associated with it.

And, teens do get sick from smoking. It isn’t just adults who suffer these effects. In the prime of their lives they don’t want to be permanently attached to an oxygen tank or have an operation to remove their tongue or voice box.

Smoking has both physical and social consequences. Your teen may be listening more to the social consequences of not smoking than the physical consequences of smoking.

Tip #1: Tell other people about your goal.

Tip #1: Tell others when you will stop smoking.

If you tell other people when that you’re going to quit smoking, then you will stay committed to your goal more than not telling anyone. You want to make sure you are surrounded by positive people who will encourage you in a good way.

You don’t want to tell every single person you know as some people may judge you and make you feel bad about your current situation. So, be selective as to which people you inform of your intention to stop smoking.

Tip #2: Find out your inner reason.

Spend some time thinking about the real reason that you want to stop smoking. Obviously your health will be the main reason, but try going deeper and analyzing a reason or two beyond your health.

Tip #3: Carry a water bottle.

Every time you feel the urge to smoke, you need to find something to occupy your mind and body. A simple replacement is to drink water. Drinking water is healthy, cheap, and easy. In the beginning, this may seem difficult, but you will soon get used to it.

Tip #4: Spend more time with people who don’t smoke.

The main reason that people smoke is because they are surrounded by people who also smoke. You will feel more pressure not to smoke when those around you also don’t smoke, as they will feel that you are being a bit disrespectful by smoking right in front of them.

Tip #5: Do this for 21 straight days.

Studies have shown that people can establish a new habit if they do something for 21 days in a row. That means after you do this for 21 days in a row, it will be more natural to not smoke than to smoke. Those 3 weeks won’t be easy, but that is the most difficult part of the process and, after that time, it start to get gradually easier.

Something that really helped me when quitting smoking was to begin the repairing process to my lungs early on. Just knowing that I was doing something positive to my body was a great source of comfort and focus and I believe was a major factor in me stopping smoking for good!

So as well as quitting smoking I thought I’d try an inexpensive home lung detox. It is designed to accelerate the removal of tar and toxins that have gathered through smoking and so increase the speed of the repair to the lung tissue. It just made sense to me that repairing the lungs quickly was essential to stopping for good.

The lung detox was surprisingly easy to do but the effects were quite staggering so if you are thinking of doing it then prepare yourself for a shock. I expected to have some evidence that my body was getting rid all the gunge in my lungs but didn’t expect it to happen so quickly and, I hasten to add in such volume. It was a real eye opener to see just how much tar I had in my lungs after 12 years of smoking. It’s also a side effect to feel mildly sick but that passes after a day or two. What I wasn’t aware of that it can take anything up to 15 years for the body to break down the tar and toxins naturally. I don’t know about you but that is way too long for me to wait!

One thing that I told myself at this point was that I was never going back to my old smoking habit and that was a real bonus. In fact, to be honest the thought of smoking a cigarette now actually makes me feel quite sick, and on the odd occasion where I smell smoke from a smoker I really don’t like it. Understand though, I’m not anti smoking. I do believe that everyone should have the choice but it’s certainly no longer something that I would ever consider taking up again.

So what happens when the lungs are repairing? The main damage from smoking is done to the alveoli and the cilia. The alveoli are tiny sacks which transfer oxygen into the bloodstream. The alveoli damage caused by smoking is quite severe and some believe that it is never fully repaired even after many years, but don’t allow this to put you off quitting. On the other hand there is much better news about cilia. These are microscopic hairlike structures which actually sweep out particles and toxins from the lungs. Smoking paralyzes the cilia and so allows particles to build up. Once you have stopped smoking and the repairing of the lungs begins to happen the cilia start to function again and so strangely enough you may develop a cough. This is a good sign. The lung detox actually brought this stage on very quickly, two or three days to be exact and then fast tracked the cleaning of the lungs to speed up the repairing process. Within 3 or 4 weeks you start to feel a whole lot better.

Why quit smoking? There are many good reasons as to why you should quit smoking. Some of these reasons are highlighted below.

Why quit smoking? There are many good reasons as to why you should quit smoking. Some of these reasons are highlighted below.

Everyone knows you should quit for health reasons. The stuff in cigarette smoke just isn’t good for you.

It’s just a fact: if you smoke, you’re hurting yourself. There are over 4000 poisonous chemicals in cigarette smoke. If lung cancer doesn’t kill you, the damage to your lungs will cripple you.

There is also the financial aspect that you should take into consideration. Smokers spend a lot of money on this habit. I’m sure that you can find better use of this money than buying a pack of cigarettes that will be the cause of your death.

Another reason why you should quit smoking is the health of your loved ones. Cigarette smoke tends to stay suspended in the air harming any person who inhales it. When you smoke, the secondhand smoke is harmful to anyone around you. A person who does not smoke should not be forced to pay the price for your foible.

If you tend to smoke at home, you are increasing the risk of your family members contracting cold, asthma, lung disease and even cancer.

While smoking is damages your health, it plays have with your looks too. The chemicals present in cigarette smoke tend to age people before their time. Smoking also ruins your complexion and stains your teeth. It also makes you more inclined to wrinkles.

You may have your own reasons to give up smoking. Maybe it is because your children requested you to. Or, it is because you are tired of cigarettes holding the reins of your life. Maybe it is your self-esteem that is making you quit cigarettes.

Whatever you answer to the question “Why quit smoking”, there is no time like the present. It may be difficult to give up the habit, but it will definitely be worth it. And, the best part is that you can quit smoking, especially if you make use of the stop smoking techniques that are available today.

You’ll find more reasons to quit at: Why Quit Smoking.

Usually smokers are well aware that smoking is bad for health and they should give up the habit. Many smokers smokers need extra motivation so that can actually make the commitment to quit.
The major quitting smoking benefit will be seen by way of your health. It is proven that 90 percent of lung cancers are caused due to smoking, and it is also responsible for majority of bronchitis and chronic emphysema cases. Lung cancer develops very rapidly and it fatal. On the other hand, chronic lung disease progresses slowly but can make life a living hell.

The other benefit of giving up smoking will be reflected on your finances. Just like any other addiction, smokers spend a lot of money on this habit, whereas if they do not smoke, they could have made better use of the same money. It is really crazy that a smoker would want to spend his money on something that harms his body. If you quit smoking, you will sure find better ways to spend that same money.

Another quitting smoking benefit is on your state of mind. It takes a lot of discipline and self-control to give up the habit, and once you do, it will improve your confidence level and self-esteem. It’s a lot easier to feel good about yourself if you no chained to a dirty habit.

If you are still smoking, you might be wondering whether there is an easy way to kick the habit. If you are looking for a way that does not require any effort or planning, then you are highly mistaken.

If you currently smoke, you might be wondering whether there is an easy way to quit smoking. If you are looking for a way that does not require any effort or planning, then you will probably be disappointed.

Having said that, giving up cigarettes isn’t the super human or impossible task that some people make it out to be. It does take some commitment, planning and application but it is definitely possible. And with all the stop smoking aids available today, it’s easier than it’s ever been.

I feel that some smokers want to believe that it is impossible to give up smoking so that they can have an excuse to keep on at it. They keep telling themselves that since it is impossible to quit smoking, why should they even make an effort to try.

If you are a smoker, you should make sure that you do not start believing in this. You most probably started smoking a while ago and do not even remember why. But you know the havoc the habit is wreaking on your life and body. You can quit smoking, and here are some ways to make the quitting easier.

One way is to create a powerful list of reasons why you want to stop. I think it was Tony Robbins who said “If you have a strong enough why you can always find a how.”

Another way to make it easier to give up the habit is by having a smoke-free home. This means that other smokers in your home would also have to stop smoking at the same time. This can be challenging, but it will surely make it easier for you to quit.

A lot of the difficulty in stopping smoking is going through nicotine withdrawal. That’s less of a problem in recent years because of the availability of nicotine substitutes. You still have to deal with changing the habit of smoking, but at least you don’t have to go through the physical symptoms of withdrawing from nicotine as you do that.

The usual strategy is to start with a dose of nicotine that replaces what you’ve been getting from cigarettes. Then, after you’ve been without the cigarettes for a while, gradually tapering down on the nicotine. Nicotine replacement comes in several forms, including gum, lozenges and patches.

Some people have found the antidepressant Zyban to be very helpful in controlling the cravings for cigarettes. A newer drug, Chantrix, also helps curb the desire to smoke.

One of the easiest ways to quit smoking is to follow a proven program. Discover a great one at: Quit Smoking Right Now Review. That system has over a 90% success rate. You may also be interested in: Quit Smoking Easy to find out more about how to make quitting smoking as easy as possible.

It's a shame but too many people who smoke let a fear of gaining weight stop them from quitting smoking. I'll tell you how to prevent weight gain when you stop smoking in a minute, but I want to begin with some facts about the problem.

Unfortunately, too many smokers use fear of gaining weight as an excuse to avoid doing one of the most important things they could do for their health – stop smoking. I’ll tell you how to prevent weight gain when you stop smoking in a minute, but I want to begin with some facts about the problem.

First, even if a person does nothing to prevent weight gain, the average weight they gain is usually less than 10 pounds. That’s not as good as none, but it’s also not a gargantuan amount. And as you see, it’s relatively easy to avoid.

Secondly, the negative effects of smoking far, far exceed any negative results you might experience even if you do put on a few pounds. There’s no comparison. The simple fact is that worrying about gaining weight is a poor excuse for not doing what needs to be done – quitting.

With that background, here’s the simplest way to avoid gaining weight when you stop smoking: move.

Yes, it’s that simple, and there’s science to prove it. A study done with people who quit smoking found that if they walked about 45 minutes a day they gained less than three pounds even if they made no other changes.

While it might sound nice to bring about more radical changes to prevent gaining weight, it might not be welcomed by most people. Quitting smoking is a big enough change in your life without you trying to completely alter your eating habits and starting a full-blown exercise regimen.

It should also be noted that you do not need to walk the full 45 minutes in one go. You can break up time into smaller slots. Also, it is perfectly okay if you do not walk for the full 45 minutes everyday as long as you walk and stay active on a regular basis.

Besides helping you combat the quit smoking weight gain, walking will also benefit you in many other ways. When you are trying to stop smoking, walking will help you deal with the stress in a positive manner. Also, many people who have the urge to smoke, use walking as a way to distract themselves from the craving. Just breathing fresh air and being active is a better alternative than killing yourself slowly with cigarette smoke.

If you begin walking when you quit smoking, you are laying a foundation for the fitness program that you might take up in the future. Imagine how nice it would feel to finally give up smoking. The first step is to give up and then see the benefits it reaps.

If you start walking when you stop smoking you’re also laying a great foundation for a fitness program down the road. Imagine how great you’ll feel when you stop smoking. You can build from there and feel even better.

Are trying to end your smoking addiction? If you have been unsuccessful in giving up the habit, you may want to try out hypnosis. Quitting smoking is mainly a mental block; and if you picture yourself living a smoke-free life, then you will find is easier to stop smoking.

The first thing that you should know is that hypnosis is not magic. Rather hypnosis uses your subconscious to help you more easily reach your goal of giving up smoking. It makes you relaxed so that you do not have to take on the stress of giving up the habit which otherwise would have de-motivated you in your conscious state. When you are hypnotized, you are not in a state of sleep. Instead, you are in a relax state of mind that help you overcome all the obstacles that your mind creates and stops you from achieving things that need a lot of effort on your part.

Time and again, studies show that hypnosis is far more effective in helping a person quit smoking than resorting to nicotine replacement aids. A nicotine patch or nicotine gum works by releasing small amounts of nicotine into your bloodstream, and this helps to reduce the urge to smoke. However, these products may take time to show results; sometimes they may be ineffective. But you can combine hypnosis with these treatment measures and it will be more effective as you will be conditioning your mind and body concurrently.

If you decide that you want to start using hypnosis as part of your smoke free program, you can either order materials to hypnotize yourself, or you can go to a certified hypnotherapist. If you are using hypnotherapy techniques yourself, you’ll need to do so in a comfortable place in your home where you know you can get some peace and quiet. You’ll need to think about the images that will trigger you to stop smoking, but it’s important to be aware that this will take time to perfect, so you’ll need to practice every day until you feel confident that you can kick the habit.

If you intend using the services of a hypnotherapist, you should ensure that the therapist has the necessary experience in this particular area. This will make certain that you receive proper treatment. Some therapists believe in single sessions that can instantly make you quit the habit, while others will offer multiple sessions so that your mind is trained to stop reflecting on cigarettes.

by Sam McMichaels

You may have asked yourself several times why quit smoking. Well, if you were not able to answer this question, here are some of the reasons.

Everyone knows you should quit for health reasons. We all know that smoking isn’t healthy. It’s just a fact: smoking ruins your lungs. The soot in smoke is irritating and the chemicals are poisonous. Lung cancer kills you quickly. Chronic lung disease kills you slowly and painfully.

There’s also the financial answer to why stop smoking. Smoking is an expensive habit. I’m certain you could find a much more productive and enjoyable use for that money when buying another pack of coffin nails.

The health of those you love is another reason to stop smoking. Secondhand smoke is a serious health risk, especially for young people. Smokers create a very real health risk for anyone who happens to be near them why the smoking. I’m a supporter of personal liberties, but have to agree with banning smoking in public places. A non-smoker shouldn’t be forced to pay the price for someone else’s smoking addiction.

It is definitely sad but true that people who smoke at home are actually causing a lot of damage to their family, especially children.

If you thought smoking affects just your health, think again. Smoking is instrumental in spoiling your looks. The toxins present in cigarette smoke cause you to age before your time. Smoking tends to discolor and stain your teeth. It is the cause of ruining your complexion, and it is the reason why you end up getting wrinkles before your time.

Different people have different reasons to stop smoking. You may want to quit smoking to act as a role model to your kids. And, you may not want to harm them with your secondhand smoke. Or maybe, you are tired of constantly craving to smoke and feel that cigarettes have taken control of your life. Perhaps, finally you are realizing that you can become a better and healthier person by quitting smoking.

No matter what your answer is to the question “Why quit smoking”, there is no time like the present to rid yourself of this habit. The road will not be easy, but the end result will make you feel happy, proud and healthy. Above all, believe in yourself. You can quit smoking, especially if you make use of all the available methods to stop smoking.
