My brother is 21 and has been smoking for about 5 years. I’ve heard that if you quit smoking your lungs start to repair after 3 days. If this is true will his lungs eventually be completely healed? Also if you have any tips on convincing him to quit I would appreciate it.

I was told that if a smoker stopped smoking, no matter how long he has been smoking for, his lungs would go back to average health in about 5/6 months. How true is this?

I know that when you quit smoking you are suppose to cough up all the nasty stuff that you have been smoking; but my chest, lungs, throat, and back all hurt beyond tolerance. I am not saying I want to smoke again, just need to know if this is normal or if there is anything I can do to help the process. How long does it last? Thanks.

Mr. Workin’ Out asked: If I smoked 3 packs a week for 2 months, a total of about 24 packs, and i quit today, how long will it take before my lungs are back to normal?

I’ve been smoking for 4 years. If I stop smoking will my lungs ever be clean again? Can they be like they were before I started smoking? Or is there a medical operation or something to clean your lungs?

We all know the dangers of smoking and most people want to stop but just can’t. They might find that even though they can get all kinds of diseases, they just can’t seem to quit. This is because it is very addictive, but here are a few ways that you can stop smoking if you want to get healthy again.
The first thing you can do to stop smoking is to search for something like a nicotine patch or nicotine gum. Now, while this is preventing you from lighting up, it also contains nicotine. It is in small doses however and safer than inhaling the cigarette fumes which can reach the brain in about 6 to 8 seconds. The nicotine in a patch or gum will not affect the brain as much or as fast. This is because it is absorbed into the blood stream through your skin or saliva.
With the nicotine gum and patches you can easily stop smoking and they help to take the edge off. This is necessary when you have a job to do and you cannot afford to be irritable and feel terrible. These products can however also cause problems, as there have been cases where people become addicted to them instead.
Another way to stop smoking is to go cold turkey. Many people use this method, especially if they smoke more as a habit and less because they are addicted. They can choose to stop and will simple not purchase cigarettes any longer. They might experience some forms of withdrawal, but generally these people just find something else to occupy their time.
Another way to cure smoking for good is to go to a hypnotherapist. These people are often seen as frauds, but many cigarette smokers actually admit that going under hypnosis cured them. They no longer feel the cravings that they used to and to them smoking is actually not nice any more. This is because the treatments are done in such a way to trick the brain into responding to smoking in a different way.
There are some other methods, but these are the best ones. They can be used as often as you need to and most of the time you will only need them once. When you find the method that works for you the best you should not give up. Keep trying and you will soon notice how energetic you feel. You will also prevent getting certain cancers and other illnesses like emphysema.
If you feel that they are unfair and rude it will only make you want to smoke again. So, do not pay it much attention, and if it is bothering you that much, leave the room, that is what every other non-smoker will do.
