Smoking E-Cigs At Your Office? Could It Become A Reality In the Near Future?

Post date: February 18, 2010

Could the time come when allowing electronic cigarettes in the office becomes commonplace? Only two decades ago many employee desks prominently featured an ashtray. Employees and visitors alike could “light up” without the scornful looks that would be common today. Even when non smoking signs appeared it was not unusual for a business person to pull an ashtray from his desk drawer for a customer to use. These days it’s not even safe to ask if you can smoke inside a building.

You may still find some break rooms offered by large company where smoking and non-smoking sections coexist. Government employees have long been required to leave the building before lighting up. A small group of employees getting a nicotine “fix” is often noticed by those entering a building. Workplaces that are not polluted with second hand smoke are cleaner and smell better. Another benefit is the reduction in fire hazard when burning tobacco products aren’t permitted.

Most smokers no longer complain when they are required to leave the building to smoke. They often find the need to defend themselves against non-smokers who complain even when workers are smoking out of doors. This has led businesses to establish outdoor smoking areas with seating and protection from the sun. These areas are often a feature of businesses with sufficient outdoor space to permit separating the smoking area from the business entrance.

There is a financial downside for business where employees frequently leave their work stations to smoke. There is no one to answer the phone or answer a question, no work is being done and additional work time is lost when the worker returns to his desk and has to refocus on where he was on a project before going for a smoke. Business leaders have offered clinics, free nicotine replacement products and even cash awards to those employees who quit smoking. More dictatorial bosses have refused to hire smokers and have made non-smoking a condition of continued employment.

The tens of thousands of dollars spend by businesses to help employees stop smoking was effective in the beginning. Workers jumped at the chance for free counseling and free nicotine replacement products to help them quit. As time went on, the only smokers left were those who were highly addicted or who had no desire to quit their tobacco habit. Allowing the use of electronic cigarettes at the workplace could be an answer to the problems posed for employers by determined cigarette smokers.

Electronic cigarettes produce a vapor that quickly dissipates like steam and is not harmful to anyone in the smoker’s vicinity. Walls and ceilings do not become dark with the tar from tobacco smoke in a room where e-cigs are used. Nasty odors released by the chemical compounds of burning tobacco are totally absent with e-cigarettes. The use of e-cigs in an office environment would seem a logical way to meet the needs of smokers without any effects to other workers. Unlike other nicotine replacement products, e-cigarettes are not invisible. The use of electronic cigarettes in the office may be an acceptable practice in the future.

E-cigarettes often look like the tobacco version. Just the appearance of a cigarette is enough to cause a negative reaction in non-smokers even though no tobacco is involved. Some e-cigs are shaped like a ball point pen and many are now chosen because they don’t look like a standard cigarette but have unusual and interesting logos and colors. Proposals to add electronic cigarettes in the workplace will need to overcome negative attitudes of committed non-smokers.

E-cigarette popularity and use continues to grow with consumers looking for a safer alternative to tobacco. Electronic cigarettes at the workplace could be a common sight five years from now as the true facts and benefits of e-cigs become more widely known and accepted.

Read The Real Information On A New Lifestyle Product ? E-Cigarette Fallacies, Facts And Big Tobacco Fiction

Post date: February 16, 2010

Many smokers have chosen electronic cigarettes as a new lifestyle product that is both healthier and environmentally responsible. Streamlined and easy to use, the best e-cigarettes are rapidly gaining acceptance by the smoking public. The lack of odor and messy ashtrays and the ability to ingest nicotine without offending those around you are prime benefits. The health benefits to non-smokers who have been exposed to second hand smoke for decades is huge.

David Hammond of the University of Waterloo U.S. reminds us the warnings on tobacco products are among the weakest in the world. There have been few changes to the warnings since they first appear in 1984 on cigarette packs. The warnings point to the most debilitating diseases smoking is known to cause but nothing has been done by the surgeon general or the FDA to require warnings to reflect new evidence of the past 25 years.

Smoking used to carry an aura of sophistication and style but is now recognized as a danger to health through research about the chemicals inhaled with every cigarette puff. In addition to serious disease the side effects of deterioration in overall health and the wrinkled skin associated with smokers have become unacceptable to us.

E-smoking provides the same nicotine boost craved by smokers of tobacco yet avoids the foul odor of burning cigarettes and cigars that spreads to hair, clothing and furniture. Without the necessity of inhaling hundreds of substances that are potentially toxic, smokers can enjoy the taste of tobacco or choose from a variety of flavors available by electronic cigarette suppliers.

A list resulting from reports by the major cigarette manufacturers such as R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and Philip Morris reveals the U.S. Department of Health lists 599 additives present in cigarettes. It’s true that many of the additives have been well tested and approved as food additives. However, they were tested and approved as additives ingested orally. They have not been tested for changes or risks that occur when the additive is burned and inhaled. Chemical properties change during the burning process and 4,000 chemical compounds are released from one burning cigarette.

Our society is now focusing on healthy lifestyles and a massive change in public attitude toward tobacco is also fueled by our goal of environmental protection. There is little health benefit to exercising regularly if the exercise is followed by inhaling hundreds or thousands of damaging chemical additives. What is the point of an organic, healthy diet and eating unprocessed foods if the meal is followed by a tobacco cigarette?

Big tobacco and big pharma were quick to attack electronic cigarettes when they were introduced in 2003. Lobbyists for the powerful firms spent millions pressuring Congress and the FDA to ban or strictly regulate e-cigs. The strength of the tobacco and pharma lobbies led to the FDA bowing to pressure and issuing a statement regarding potential yet vague hazards of e-cigarettes.

Tobacco smokers are arriving at their own conclusions. The weight of evidence pointing to serious health risks combined with the high cost of the products due to recent tax increases has led many dedicated tobacco smokers to choose the alternative of e-cigs. For the first time smokers have found a new lifestyle product that will provide the pleasure of smoking without the risks and costs of tobacco.

Amazing Facts About Lower Cost Electronic Cigarettes: The Most Expensive E-Cig Costs Less Than Inexpensive Tobacco

Post date: February 16, 2010

You will save money with cheap electronic cigarettes even if you purchase the best quality e-cig available. The federal tax on a pack of cigarettes rose from 38 cents to $1.01 last year and tobacco taxes have also been raised by several states in an attempt to balance challenged budgets.

The public complained about the rising taxes but most didn’t notice when big tobacco companies raised the price of their products at the very same time. In the end the result was sticker shock for smokers who found their previously $2.50 pack of cigarettes now carried a price tag of $5.00. Those who smoked premium brands now pay $6-7 per pack and in a few states one pack of tobacco cigarettes will cost you $10. When you consider the demographics that show smokers are more likely to be in lower income brackets, you begin to see what a big financial problem this has become for those addicted to tobacco.

E-cigarettes are cheap when compared with the cost of smoking tobacco. The best electronic cigarettes have a “draw” that feels similar to that of smoking a tobacco cigarette and e-cig users recommend their favorite with the term “throat hit” which describes the volume of vapor. Electronic cigarette quality relies on the reliability and performance of the system used to deliver vapor to the smoker.

Buy the best electronic cigarette available and you will save money when compared to the cost of tobacco products today. A starter kit provides disposable cartridges or liquid for refilling the e-cig as well as a battery charger and the basic reusable components of the product.

A built in atomizer in the disposable cartridge consists of nicotine and water in solution. Cleaning and maintenance are not needed for electronic cigarettes with disposable cartridges. Both a long and short battery component included in starter kits and each has an LED light at the tip. Cartridges are chosen by both flavor and by the specific level of nicotine the user prefers.

You can easily tell when you need to replace a cartridge as the flavor will become weaker or develop an off taste. You need only screw a new cartridge onto the battery and you are good to go. For a new e-cig it’s necessary to charge the battery for 2-3 hours. One cartridge is equal to 400 puffs and lasts as long as one pack of tobacco cigarettes.

Refillable cartridges are also popular as the small vial of e-liquid is equivalent to five cartons of tobacco cigarettes. The liquid is dripped into the cartridge as needed and is widely available in many flavors and nicotine levels. Quality control for some e-liquid manufacturers is not optimal and it’s recommended this e-juice be purchased from a reputable manufacturer. Poor quality resulting in uneven nicotine levels is most often found in e-liquids imported from China.

No matter which delivery system you choose you will save money using electronic cigarettes. If you want a system that is no harder to use than opening a pack of cigarettes, the replaceable cartridge is your best choice for cheap electronic cigarettes.

How To Repair The Lungs After Quitting Smoking Using A Lung Detox

Post date: February 15, 2010

Something that really helped me when quitting smoking was to begin the repairing process to my lungs early on. Just knowing that I was doing something positive to my body was a great source of comfort and focus and I believe was a major factor in me stopping smoking for good!

So as well as quitting smoking I thought I’d try an inexpensive home lung detox. It is designed to accelerate the removal of tar and toxins that have gathered through smoking and so increase the speed of the repair to the lung tissue. It just made sense to me that repairing the lungs quickly was essential to stopping for good.

The lung detox was surprisingly easy to do but the effects were quite staggering so if you are thinking of doing it then prepare yourself for a shock. I expected to have some evidence that my body was getting rid all the gunge in my lungs but didn’t expect it to happen so quickly and, I hasten to add in such volume. It was a real eye opener to see just how much tar I had in my lungs after 12 years of smoking. It’s also a side effect to feel mildly sick but that passes after a day or two. What I wasn’t aware of that it can take anything up to 15 years for the body to break down the tar and toxins naturally. I don’t know about you but that is way too long for me to wait!

One thing that I told myself at this point was that I was never going back to my old smoking habit and that was a real bonus. In fact, to be honest the thought of smoking a cigarette now actually makes me feel quite sick, and on the odd occasion where I smell smoke from a smoker I really don’t like it. Understand though, I’m not anti smoking. I do believe that everyone should have the choice but it’s certainly no longer something that I would ever consider taking up again.

So what happens when the lungs are repairing? The main damage from smoking is done to the alveoli and the cilia. The alveoli are tiny sacks which transfer oxygen into the bloodstream. The alveoli damage caused by smoking is quite severe and some believe that it is never fully repaired even after many years, but don’t allow this to put you off quitting. On the other hand there is much better news about cilia. These are microscopic hairlike structures which actually sweep out particles and toxins from the lungs. Smoking paralyzes the cilia and so allows particles to build up. Once you have stopped smoking and the repairing of the lungs begins to happen the cilia start to function again and so strangely enough you may develop a cough. This is a good sign. The lung detox actually brought this stage on very quickly, two or three days to be exact and then fast tracked the cleaning of the lungs to speed up the repairing process. Within 3 or 4 weeks you start to feel a whole lot better.

Prepare Yourself for Success When You Quit Smoking

Post date: February 14, 2010

It can be very difficult to quit smoking, no matter if you smoke a couple of cigarettes a day or a full pack, or if you’ve been smoking for 1 year or 10. I have tried myself to quit on a number of occasions and each time I have always started back for one reason or another. I hate that I smoke and would like someone just to come and babysit me day after day to make sure I don’t light up. I want to get this information out there not only for myself, but for anyone that may find it useful, and also I want to use it as a guide and reminder to myself so I can know what I need to do to make it work this time.

Cigarettes are addictive, and even if you know how bad it is for you, it still takes quite a bit of desire and determination to quit and stay quit. You will also need to take some time to prepare, so you can make sure you are mentally ready to give up smoking. Don’t have the mindset that you will fail. If you have a mind set that you will fail, then you most likely will. You will need to keep telling yourself that you can make it through. Did you know the typical craving for a cigarette only lasts 3 minutes. So if you get a craving, set a timer and when that 3 minutes has passed congratulate yourself! If you take the time to make sure you are prepared in advance, it will make a difference in how successful you are when you attempt to quit.

If you know what to expect and how to handle situations that come up that will hinder your success when you attempt to stop smoking, it will be easier for you to stick with a method. Read them over and consider all your options and what you think would work best for you before you decide to live smoke free.

What are your reasons for wanting to stop smoking? Ask yourself this and write it down, make a list. If you are stopping because someone else is telling you to, then you are doomed to fail. You have to want to do this for yourself. Smoking is a personal decision to make, and so is stopping. You will have a hard time being motivated if you really do not want to quit yet. Like a lot of other people, my reason for wanting to stop is for my children. I want to be around for them later in life. Since I’m spending all this time taking care of them, I think it is only fair that I be around long enough for them to take care of me!

What reasons do you have for wanting to smoke? Do you enjoy the flavor, does it help you relax? Everyone has their own personal reasons why they want to keep on smoking. What are your reasons? For most people it is associated with relaxation. Its a break from the norm which becomes the norm. A little bit of “me” time. What we need to try to remember is that you can do this without a cigarette in your hand. So you can keep the same habit of where you go just leave the cancer stick behind.

Educate yourself. Research and learn. You can find all kinds of information on line. If you know now what smoking does to your body, and what the consequences are to your health and those around you when you light up, it could serve as a great motivational tool. You can find some pretty nasty things on line about what smoking can do to you. Having a visual aid of the nasty side effects will help you. You can also download a counter, that will keep up with how much money your saving and how much life your saving. These are great for a visual reminder of why you are doing what your doing.

Set yourself up with a realistic goal. If you do not do this, and you set goals that you can not reach you will be setting yourself for failure. If it was an easy habit to break, there wouldn’t be such a problem with people being able to quit. Since you know ahead of time that this will be hard habit to break, you need to set goals that are not impossible for you to reach. My most recent try to stop smoking, I tried out the “cold turkey” method. I did really well for 2 weeks, but then just round of stress and I was back on the smoking wagon! So now I know, cold turkey isn’t for me. I can try something else, just because one method didn’t work for me doesn’t mean that no methods will work.

Do not be discouraged if you do not succeed on your first try. This is quite common and most people can not stop on the first try. This is why it is important for you to be serious about stopping smoking. you may end up trying several different methods to quit before you find one that works best for you. But you can’t let yourself be discouraged and give up. You will definitely need to make some lifestyle changes. It will be very hard to quit if everyone around you is still smoking. You may need to consider how you will deal with this as it comes up.

The better prepared you are, the easier it will be for you to stop. This will not be a task that you can complete easily if you do not start off with all the right preparations and knowing what to expect. If you just jump right into quitting you may be unsuccessful. Take the time to know what your options are before you start to quit and pick what you think will work best for you.

Seeing as how I am trying to quit myself, I will be writing as much as I can, so that I can remember constantly that I am working towards being smoke free.
