A Motivation Theory To Attempt Right Right Away

Post date: November 29, 2009

A good motivation theory has to acknowledge the fact that we each get driven differently. In the practice of neuro-linguistic programming or “NLP” this is taken into account in several ways. One of the more functional NLP theories is the concept of “away-from” & “towards” personalities.

Of course, we each have both ways of operation as a part of the path we function, but oftentimes one is dominant in each of us. Those in who the “towards” motivation dominates will be more affected by opinions of future rewards. Those with a mainly “away-from” motivational style, will be more impressed by ideas of escaping pain or trouble.

Why not use this test to get an idea about which motivational style dominates your personality? Just read the following 2 descriptions of what having millions of dollars could mean to you.

1. You are safe & secure. You never have to return to your job or do anything you don’t want to do. You have the ways to eradicate most of your problems easily. You have everything you need to be free and comfortable.

2. You have the house of your dreams, & your favorite car too. You purchase anything you need for you & your friends, & you do what you want. You have the means to achieve any of your goals.

If the first description is more strong to you, you principally have an “away-from” personality. If you feel more affected by the second description, you have a “towards” personality. There are good and bad points to both types. “Towards” individuals make good entrepreneurs, for example, but often get into problem because they do not plan well enough to obviate problems. “Away-from” individuals manage things well & avoid problems, but don’t do as well at big goals.

So how do you use this motivation theory & this knowledge about yourself to your best advantage? Suppose you want to make more money and you are an “towards” person. You would want to realise the things you will buy and do with that money, but also be careful that you may be glossing over the problems. If you are an “away-from” person, you’ll need to continually remind yourself what a fix it will be if you fail. Otherwise you will lose your motivation once you reach some level of ease.

Naturally, when you realise these two motivational styles, you can also regulate others more easily. If you wanted to sell a new car to someone, for example, you would first ensure if they are motivated away from things or towards things. For the former, you might explain how this new car will mean no more used-car hassles, or how it will make life easier. For the latter, you would explain how great they’ll look in it, or what it can do.

You can execute this theory, and practise using this knowledge to influence others, but do not forget to influence yourself. While it is useful for understanding & influencing others, this is a motivation theory that is best used to impress your own self improvement.

How Can I Make My Parents Quit Smoking? Do You Know A Efficient Way In Order To Make Them Understand And Quit?

Post date: November 28, 2009

As I am their son, they just never take it seriously when I explain them the problem for their health, for other people’s health ( living near by here), for hygien, for the flavour of food, etc, etc…
But they refuse to listen to me, although I am 35 years old now !!!
When I go and visit them in their house, I am completely disgusted by the smell of tobacco and ash, that’s really something hard to tolerate…
I don’t even want to eat the dishes that my mother cooks, because I cannot bear the smell of tobacco that remains always on her ( clothes, hair)
When I embrace my parents, the tobacco smell spoils all the mood…
And , the most important, they are both ill ( diabetis).
So that’s really important to make them quit that stupid and dirty addiction.
Have you some ideas that have already worked ?
Thank you in advance

It only takes a week for your body not to need or crave nicotine but it is the mind that takes much longer. There are many methods that individuals try when looking to quit smoking but most of them do not have any type of psychological treatment.

When you stop smoking your body can actually function without nicotine and will stop craving it after a week. However your psychology continues to crave the nicotine, or the way you feel when you have nicotine for many weeks. It is more important to focus on treating the psychology cravings rather than your physical craving.

If you are struggling with nervousness or anxiety due to cravings or just from not having nicotine then the wild out plant can be used to decrease these symptoms. Stop Smoking Tip – Why You Should Stop Is The Question

Post date: November 28, 2009

Taking the decision to stop smoking is surely the best thing you could do if you have been smoking for any number of years like I was. I always wanted to quit mostly for health reasons and as I was getting older and after 30 plus years as a chain smoker I was starting to feel the damaging effects of my addition.

Let me share with you what did it for me. Although I did not have the motivation or determination to really go through with it I new I had to quit. Over time I was sort of forced into trying to stop for good so let me share with you some of my “stop smoking tips”.

Just before going back home to Canada on a visit for a few months I bought my allowed two cartons of Marlboro for a bit less than 4 USD each. I am currently living in the Philippines where cigarettes are real cheap at approximately 50 US cents per pack. I had not returned to Canada in a few years so I almost had a heart attack when two weeks after arriving and running out of my cheap Lucky Strike’s I discovered I now had to pay over $9.00 for a pack of 25. It felt as if I was heading straight for bankruptcy and ultimately going to be DEAD broke.

To make things even even worst, the great and friendly City Of Davao where I made my new home in the Philippines had implemented a few drastic changes. Our now famous Mayor Rodrigo Duterte had decided to make Davao one of the first smoke free city in Asia and was throwing people in jail for breaking the law. So if you were caught smoking in public you would get a fine plus one night in the city jail. Man… was I in trouble then?

I had to quit and fast. I personally took the cold turkey route but I would not recommend this option to anyone because chances of failure are extremely high so here are my stop smoking tips if you want to increase your chance for success they may help you get on the road to dropping the habit for good

1. Sketch up a list of why you want to quit smoking. A list of clear set of goals in mind will help you stay on track. This way all your good intentions will have a greater chance of succeeding

2. One of the most difficult stop smoking tip to follow is to set a date to quit and to stick to it but it is an imperative first step. It has been shown through several researches that most people only tend to smoke more when trying to cut down slowly. Most people only tend to smoke more of each single cigarette, keeping their nicotine levels at the same level as if they have not reduced their consumption at all.

3. Go ahead and tell everybody of your decision to stop smoking.

4. Get rid of everything related to smoking. That includes ashtrays, lighters, and cigarettes obviously.

5. With the high price per pack, others will soon be avoiding you like the plague if you keep on begging for cigarettes so do not buy your own cigarettes anymore. Soon, very soon, you’ll become a loner.

6. Stop carrying cigarettes with you as this will be an effective behavioral change. This means you can not depend on having a cigarette when you need one and as a result you should over time beat the dependence of your addiction.

7. Sweat it out. It has been said that smoking and exercise don’t get along, so which one would you rather do? A great stop smoking tip that is also beneficial to your health is to establish an exercise routine. Exercising regularly will lessen your dependency on nicotine and is guarantee to get you into a much better shape. Cardiovascular exercise is a better option than lifting weights, but doing both isn’t a bad idea at all.

8. At the beginnings and for a few weeks at least, stay away from places and situations that will tempt you to smoke. Many people relate smoking with drinking alcohol, so it may be a good idea to stay away from drinking if you are such a person.

Immediately after quitting I suffered some very nasty withdrawal symptoms. I had headaches, nausea, stress, irritability, always cravings for food as well as cigarettes, and a general feeling of dizziness. Don’t be surprised as you will most likely experience one or more of these symptoms and you will simply have to tough them out for a few days or a few weeks but it will eventually go away.

Smoking is one of the nastiest habits to break so don’t be too hard on yourself if you relapse a couple of times. Nobody is perfect but if you stay focused YOU CAN DO IT. Each day that you win the fight is a step to success. Use any step backs as an opportunity to re-examine the reasons for smoking again, and figure out a better way to overcome such situations better in the future.
