I **** this secret “lifestyle” of smoking, I know I have a problem, but I do not know what to do. I can’t go to anyone because people know I used to smoke 2 years ago but they thought I quit, which I did for several months….but no one knows I started up again.
I have tried the patch….gum….cold turkey….nothing works….I only smoke because if I don’t I get that drive in me for that nicotine, and its really intense and strong. I don’t know who to turn to I really want to smoke because its not something I enjoy and I know its bad for my health…..what can I do at this point?

Your not ready to stop yet. It’s a personal thing. I smoked 40 a day for 13 years and never once really wanted to stop. One day I really really did I used the patches ’till the very last patch but still could smoke now. Hope you do eventually do it because it was one of the best thing I ever did. Good luck.

I personally don’t smoke, but I’ve known people to get Acupuncture to help this. This type of acupuncture can help with weight loss as well.

I smoked hard for over 10 years… Quit cold turkey for over a year…Now I smoke a cig occaisionally because I DO enjoy it…
when I started a new job I stopped smoking a few days after I started there so I would rid myself of the cig-break habit… also stopped hangin’ with my smoker pals for a while…
to quit you will have to really want to quit. if you can envision that you ARE a non smoker and that they WILL kill you then it is easier.

The first thing to do if you really want to quit is get rid of everything you have that reminds you to smoke. Get rid of the cigarettes, the matches and the ash trays. If you have friends who smoke, don’t hang around with them, or you will be tempted. It’s hard to quit, but if you make a decision and stick with it, then you can make it. Good luck.

This is what i did. However it did takes several attempts. After eating or when driving or other times i normally take a smoke, i ate a mint breathsaver. the methol taste of breathsaver took place of cigs. I would carry rolls and keep good supply of breathsavers and put in mouth until urge was satisfied. Now when i still finish eating or go for walks i put b/s in mouth. good luck. not ez
if u don’t smoke methol then switch to methol, sorry can’t spell good. the diff taste of methol might get u to stop or smoke methol for a shile and then try the mint, wintergreen breathsavers trick. B/s cheaper and safer than cigs. no shirt burns either.

I smoked for many many years and like you tried everything that I could to stop.I would wine and complain about not being able to stop. Boo hoo, poor me, I’m to weak of a person to quit. I got tired of REALLY wanting to quit but not doing it so decided that if I didn’t quit cold turkey I was a pushy. So far so good. Five years now. Don’t even set a time and date. Or wait till your last pack is gone. Just tell yourself that if you don’t quit this minute…for good….your a pushy. And if THAT’S the case then stop crying about it and just smoke your life away.

I just talked about this in my health class today.
ok here are some good ideas to have when you plan to quit.
1.) have a support system, like people that will give you a good pat on the back when you resist a cigarette
2.) Be strong about your decision and try to resist all you can
3.) the nicotine patch might works, or the gum
4.)Try the 4 D’s: (1) Delay-Wait a few minutes (2)Deep breath-take 4 deep breaths (3) Drink cold water or juice- the carb energy in juice replaces nicotine’s stimulating effect (4)Do something else
5.) have the reward system: when you resist a cigarette, give yourself some sweet fruit or a small piece of candy
plus if you stop, you’ll have a lot more money, you might have lost $10,000+ dollars, but now you will have more money to spend on more important stuff. And your breath wont stink anymore, and neither will your clothes Your complexion will improve, and you won’t have to leave to go smoke somewhere.
Here are some facts about Smoking:
3,000 teens start a day
out of every 8 people that die from smoking, there is one person that dies from the second hand smoke
Here are some facts about Quitting Smoking:
(after smoking that last cigarette)
in 20 minutes, you blood pressure returns to normal again.
in 8 hours the oxygen in your blood returns to normal
in one day your risk of heart disease decreases
in 2 days your senses of smell and taste improve
in 3 days breathing is easier and ling capacity increase
within 2-3 weeks your cirrulation gets better
within 1-9 months coughing and sinus problems and shortness of breath decrease and you have more energy
Try to find something else to do when you need a cigarette. And don’t give in to the temptation
Good Luck on Quitting!

You’ve really got to make the decision to quit, and then just do it – no trying, just do it and don’t stop doing it. Focus on the reasons you are quitting, not on what you think you are missing.
But there’s not much point in tossing your cigs, if you don’t fix the underlying reason you smoke. So why do you smoke? Lonely, bored, fidgety, low confidence or self-esteem, caught up in peer pressure, an excuse to indulge in self-guilt and pity, or just an out-of-date habit you don’t need now?
Once you’ve quit for 48-72 hours, the nicotine is out of your blood and the rest of your addiction is in your head. The good news is that there are heaps of things you can do to replace your habit – and solve your underlying problems. Healthy snacks and things to do with your hands instead of putting a cig in your mouth, exercise, skills, hobbies and new activities to fill in your old smoking time, etc. All these make you feel good about yourself and give you the feeling of control over your life and future.

Surround yourself with positive thoughts, quotes and even cartoons concerning quitting. Put them in places where you smoke most often, and make sure you see them each and every day. Your subconscious will see these and work to help you quit and remain quit. Use NOPE as a mantra. “NOT ONE PUFF EVER”. Remember, one puff will start you smoking again after you quit. Find an online support group that you can utilize when you feel the need to vent or get frustrated. Best of luck. You can do this.

You need supreme and extreme will power and determination. If you are incapable of acquiring those attributes keep on smoking and little by little keep on destroying yourself. Hopefully, you will enjoy the time you have left in spite of all your smoke related health problems.

Are there any support groups in your area?

My dad had smoked when younger..
In his case he found other addictions that took the place of smoking………
Finding a alternative or less unhealthy addiction does work for some.
