well from someone who used to smoke and quit. You’ve got to do it cold turkey! Even though its painful, if you try to do the slowly wean off method then it really won’t work.

There is exactly one way to quit: to decide to do so. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known, so it won’t be easy. My father smoked for decades. One day, my mother noticed that she had not seen him smoking recently. “I quit,” said he, and that was that.

Think about what it will be like to die from lung cancer or emphysema. Ever get choked from accidentally inhaling water in your lungs at the pool? Imagine that feeling every moment, with every breath for the final months of your life. That is what it is like to die from emphysema. Now imagine the worst pain imaginable. Imagine hitting a dilotid pump every 15 minutes just to keep from screaming in agony. The dilotid lasts for about 10 minutes the other 5 is to keep you from OD’ing. That 5 minutes will seem a life time. There is no cure, no treatment for either and if you smoke you will more than likely die from one or the other. Because your family smokes you have an even better chance because of a life of second hand smoke.
Do the math, 1 pack a day for 15 years. Thats about 110,000 cigarettes. Point this out to your family. Never start smoking. I quit 2 years ago, cold turkey, and I pray every day that I quit in time.

Hi
Cigarettes are one the most addictive substances.
First no one makes any one smoke, its our thought which make us to smoke. People quit smoking only if they want to do and not when some one want them to quit.
And one last thing, you can just help some one to reduce the smoking but ultimatly the smokers has to make a decesion on his own.
hope this will help
take care and best of luck
