I am in the process of trying to quit and would love any extra help or tips you could give me from any past experiences. I do not want to do it with drugs from the doc, thanks in advance!

When you start out, you identify your top 2 – 3 ‘smoking places’ (usually car, home, stoop at office, etc.) and you phase them out one at a time. If you need to smoke, you still can, but you make those places TOTALLY off limits. Your body has to get used to the fact that smoking needs to feel weird, not natural anymore.
Second tip: Set rewards for yourself, but DON”T make them food rewards! Every dollar you would have spent on cigarettes that day/week/month – spend it on something else for you. A facial, new DVD, nailpolish, etc.
Last tip – don’t be hard on yourself. You know how hard this is. You are amazing for attempting this journey, and you are strong. You can do this!

This is how I did it after a few previous abortive attempts.
I made a firm resolve never to smoke again and concentrated on how horrible a habit it was. When I had stopped for a week I made a bet with my girlfriend of the equivalent of £50 that I would not smoke for 6 months. This was the thing that stopped me “having just one”.
As smoking is a double addiction, one a physical craving for nicotine and the other a repetitive habit of sucking on something, I used a pencil as a “soother” when the desired to smoke came on.
It wasn’t easy but I was resolved to prove I was strong enough to control the habit, having failed previously. Nowadays there are nicotine patches which help with physical craving – which would have made it easier for me.
Anyway it worked and I haven’t smoked for decades.
Good luck in your endeavour.
